Mens Tattoo Desingns Biography
Drawing from her Filipino roots in a non-traditional way is exactly what Ruth “Ruthless” Pineda does as a modern-day tattoo artist. By combining long-established forms with new techniques, while focusing on artistic influences from Eastern art and even some Americana, Ruthless has created her own unique style of tattooing that takes Neo-Traditional to a whole new level.

As a healing tattoo artist, Ruth believes that tattoos have the power to empower, heal and transform those who choose to wear them.  She delves into the motivations of those getting the tattoo and discovers how best to make the feelings, memories and meanings behind each tattoo come to life in the pieces that she composes for her clients.

Tattoos

The ancient art of tattoo has a rich history, and tattooing has been elemental in various cultures throughout the world. While some cultures would only ink certain parts of their bodies such as the face or spine or ankles, others could be found with full-body tattoos. In ancient Filipino tribal-life men wore tattoos to signify rank and accomplishments, while tattoos on women were marks of beauty; early explorers called the Philippine natives “The Painted People” because of their full-body art.

Throughout time, tattooing has been used for a plethora of reasons, whether for simple cosmetics, as decorations for bravery, to symbolize spiritual devotion, worn as talismans of protection, and even as the mark of an outcast. The placement and positioning of tattoos is even thought to be therapeutic and healing, similar to the use of acupuncture. Today tattoos are used as a means to express beliefs, remember lost loved ones, identify with a certain people group, or for the shear enjoyment of being a moving, breathing piece of art.
Dragon as Muse
Just as tattooing is her artistic outlet, dragons are Ruthless inspiration. Dragons boldly encompass the primal forces of nature and oftentimes exude a supernatural power or magical quality; ancient lore depicts them as creatures with longevity, and their length of life could be the key to their keen intelligence and vast wisdom; they are secretive and mysterious, with an auspicious power that can be either brutal or benevolent.
In Filipino traditions, Bakunawa was the dragon who caused eclipses by consuming the moon; on nights of an eclipse, Philippine islanders would bang pots and pans making music to distract the dragon from its lunar feast and allow the moon to reappear in the sky.
With the bold, clever and perceptive creature of the dragon as her muse, and the outlet of her artistic endeavors in the form of tattoos, it is no wonder Ruth Pineda is called Ruthless.
